They are strongly connected, and often enough, when you work on improving one it leads to improvements in the other two.
01/ Eat a healthy diet.
But it’s not just about what you eat, it’s also about how you prepare and cook your meals. Here are some simple but effective tips that I always suggest to my clients as a nutritionist and dietician in Dubai:
- Wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them to reduce pesticide residue from them.
- Eat raw fruits and vegetables to make the most of their vitamins and minerals.
- When you boil vegetables, use the cooking water in soup to get vitamins from it.
- Use herbs and spices that boost your immune system with their cancer-fighting properties, such as garlic, ginger, basil, coriander, and turmeric.
- Avoid cooking oils on high heat to prevent them from turning carcinogenic.
02/ Be physically active.
Here are some tips to achieve the recommendation to get 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity every day:
- Find a friend to be your walking partner, this way you can motivate each other.
- Don’t let the weather be an excuse, if it’s raining, walk in the mall.
- Sign up at the gym and join group exercises such as Pilates or Zumba.
Alongside being physically active, it’s very important to avoid the sedentary lifestyle that we all seem to fall into. Spending hours in front of a computer or TV can be detrimental to your physical wellbeing even if you are exercising; so try to move around the office every hour, take the stairs, walk around while making phone calls, anything that can get you moving during the day.
03/ Control your weight.
By embracing this cancer prevention trio—eating a healthy diet, staying active, and managing your weight—you can significantly reduce your cancer risk.
