Celebrate Valentine’s Day With Heart Healthy Diet

Fruits and vegetables lay on the bag
The season of love is just around the corner. Yes, we are talking about Valentine’s Day. and before you run off buying chocolate and confetti for your partner, you might want to check out some healthier alternatives to express your love and, most importantly, show them that you care about their health and well-being. Utilizing my years of experience as a clinical dietician and hypnotherapist in Dubai, I am going to share some smart and healthy tips to have a healthy Valentine’s Day diet.

7 healthy diet tips for this Valentine’s Day

01/ Bring on the heat.

Add a dose of chili peppers to your pasta or soups. Pepper is known to have a positive impact on our hearts. The spiciness in them means they are filled with vitamin C which helps your immune system. Red pepper not only adds a kick to your dishes but also helps with inflammation by improving circulation.

02/ Choose Naturally Sweet ingredients.

Next, you can choose naturally sweet things like sweet potato for your romantic dinner. They are packed with antioxidants and beta-carotene. Sweet potatoes are like a powerhouse of nutrition as they are also high in fiber and potassium, which play an important role in reducing blood pressure. If not as your main dish, you can mash or roast sweet potato with herbs for a comfortable side dish.  Their beautiful color is a must on your Valentine’s table.

03/ Beetroot for the red color.

Add red foods like beetroot not just because it’s Valentine’s, but also because they are good for your health. Beets can help protect healthy cells from free radical damage and can also help prevent cancer.  Tip: For a playful presentation, cut them into heart shapes using a cookie cutter, or mix them into a goat cheese and walnut salad for a truly romantic dish.

04/ Heart-Healthy Hot Chocolate.

What better way to get cozy than with a warm cup of hot chocolate? Get cozy with cocoa and add a pinch of cinnamon and cayenne pepper to make a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Not only will cinnamon give it a nice flavor, but it also plays an important role in lowering LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL levels. Enjoy it by the fireplace for an intimate atmosphere as you sip and savor together.

05/ Enjoy some wine.

It won’t be a proper celebration without some red wine, but you’ll also be doing your hearts a favor (as long as you drink in moderation). Red wine has resveratrol, which helps boost blood flow and improves circulation. Pair it with your dinner for a romantic touch, and raise a glass to your love and your health.

06/ Add pomegranate passion.

Pomegranate seeds will make a lovely garnish to the dish you’re cooking, and it will contribute positively to your partner’s health as well as yours. Studies have shown that pomegranates have beneficial effects on several health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and dental health. Sprinkle them over salads or desserts to add a color pop and a sweet-tart flavor.

07/ Choose surf over turf.

Go for a seafood dinner this Valentine’s Day instead of the usual steak. Being a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, fish can play an important role in your mental health and improve your memory so you don’t forget the beautiful moments you are spending with your loved one. Pair your seafood with a fresh salad or roasted vegetables for a nutritious and satisfying dinner.
